A dedicated young Kathak dancer, Richa Jain started her formaltraining in Kathak at the tender age of 3years, under the guidance of herparents; Kathak exponents Guru Shri. Ravi Jain (Disciple of Padmashree ShambhuMaharaj, Lucknow gharana and Alaknanda Devi of Benaras gharana) and Guru Smt.Nalini Jain (Disciple of Guru Sunder Prasad ji and Guru Kundan Lal Gangani,Jaipur Gharana). Because of her extensive training under her parents ,Richa’s Kathak performances are aperfect blend of the lucknow , Jaipur andBenaras gharanas (Styles) of Kathak.
She also received her initial vocal music training from Shri Ajit kumar Mishra and latergroomed in Hindustani classical music under the guidance of renowned Guru and exponent Shri A..Maheshwar Rao of the Gwalior Gharana.
Because of her training in Kathak and Hindustani classical vocalmusic, Richa has the unique feature of Dancing and singing simultaneously. Sheis one of the few dancers who exhibit this rare quality of dancing and singingsimultaneously while presenting Abhinaya( Expressions) on Thumri, dadra,ghazals , geet etc.
Besides being an A grade artist of Doordarshan Kendra and a gradedartist of All India Radio in light music, Richa is an Empanelled Artist of theI.C.C.R. Richa has given performances on stage and television, notable amongstwhich are National programme of Dance (Doordarshan) , performances at the ‘Kathak Utsav’, organized by Sangeet Natak Academy at Vadodara, 2008 , N.C.P.Aat Mumbai 2009, Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai 2009,Haridas sammelan 2011 , Mumbai, IndiaInternational Centre, 2006, 2008, 2011,2012 New Delhi , India Habitat Centre, 2008, 2009 ,2010 and 2011, New Delhi, Pracheen kala Kendra at Chandigarh, 2009 , SangeetNatak Academy, lucknow, 2010 , IGRMS, , Bhopal 2010, Rukmani Devi ArundaleFestival, 2010 New Delhi, DelhiInternational Arts Festival, New Delhi 2009,Jash –e-Faiz , Jammu, 2011, Rashtriya kathak sansthan, 2009 and 2012 , ICCR –Horizon series 2012 and many more.
She has also been awarded the title of ‘Shringar mani ‘ by the SurSingar Samsad, Mumbai in 2009. She has been a part of various danceworkshops and has conducted lecture demonstrations. She has also worked as an assistant choreographer underher guru for various productions and telefilms. After graduating in commercefrom Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University, Richa holds aPost-graduate Degree in commerce. She has also completed her Master’s in KathakDance and her Master’s in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music, from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.
